Reading
We will be using Reading Street for our curriculum this year.
Writing
Our focus for writing continues to be the 6+1 Traits of writing.
Math
We will be using Saxon math this year as the foundation of the math instruction. Students will not be receiving a textbook but will be able to access the digit textbook through Google Drive as a reference tool. We will also be using Accelerated Math to insure that students are mastering the taught concepts. This program allows the teacher and student to get quick feedback on the level of understanding on a particular concept. AM (Accelerated Math) will also be excellent for students who need a little push to extend their learning independently or for students who need some more practice with challenging skills.
Science
We will be using the National Geographic Explorer Science textbook this year. Students will keep a science notebook in which they will be responsible for chapter vocabulary, chapter notes, labs, and observations. There will be investigations and hands-on activities to help students understand science concepts. Students will record results of experiments and write ideas learned during our science activities. The scientific process will also be reinforced throughout the school year. The 4th grade students will also participate in a Science Fair that will be held during our Open House in February. You will receive more information regarding Science Fair in January.
Social Studies
Our study of Indiana history will involve projects, reports, map skills, reading of a variety of sources, and use of the many resources in the library. We will wrap up our year with a Pioneer Day, in which students will be encouraged to dress in time period clothing.
